Major Atom AA's went to the Georgina Regional Silver Stick Qualifier, Nov. 25-27.
The CW Fusion Major Atom AA team traveled to Georgina during the weekend of Nov. 25-27 to participate in the 2011 Georgina Regional Silver Stick Qualifier.
The boys started the tournament well with a 4-2 win over the Mississauga Terriers.
Game 2 resulted in a 1-1 draw with a determined Pickering Panther team. CW totally controlled the entire game but a hot Pickering goalie kept it tied.
Last game of the round robin had the team facing a very competitive Aurora Tigers. It was three intense periods of hockey, but with time winding down in the third and everything on the line, the Fusion saw themselves down 1-0.
With about 1 minute left, Fusion opted to pull goalie Sammy Preseinhammer. With the man advantage, CW battled hard, hemmed the Tigers in their own end and were able to fire several pucks on net.
Unfortunately, with one very unlucky bounce, the Tigers breached the CW defensive line, managed to make it to the net and shovel the puck into an empty cage giving the Tigers their third win of the round robin, edging out CW 2-0.
Fusion then received some positive fortune when the Mississauga Terriers defeated the Pickering Panthers in the final game of the round robin. This gave CW a one-point advantage over the Panthers, advancing them to the quarter finals.
Finishing in 8th spot meant a rematch with 1st place Aurora Tigers in their quarter final match. CW played their hearts out, having one of their best games of the season.
They dominated the entire game at each end. When the final buzzer sounded, CW had redeemed themselves, defeating the Tigers 5-3 securing a spot in the semi-finals.
The Fusion then faced off with an unknown rival, the Mississauga Jets. Entering the third period, CW once again found themselves down 1-0. The hole got bigger when CW took several penalties and the Jets scored back to back unlucky goals.
