March 22, 1926 - February 23, 2010Suddenly at home in Fergus in his 83rd year. Gord leaves his wife and constant companion Jean (her right hand) with a broken heart. Father to Garry, much loved and respected stepdad to Brian (Catherine) McGuinness of Fergus, Kenny (Lorraine) McGuinness of Orangeville. He was loved and will be missed by his step grandchildren Jacob McGuinness of Orangeville, Kendra McGuinness of Guelph, Jamie Lennon, Cathan Lennon of Fergus and Scott Hastings of Toronto and three great-grandchildren. Left to mourn him is his sister Joyce Curtis (Ed) of Arthur, his sisters and brothers in law, Anne and Dennis Roberts, Janice and Diet Bowers, John, Alec and Mary all of the UK and Andrew and Kay of Australia and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Charles and Ivy, brothers-in-law Jim MacKenzie and Dan MacKenzie.
Gord was loved by all who knew him. He always had a story to tell and loved to talk about his life in Toronto and Hamilton. He knew every DJ on AM 740 Radio and was often teased about being the FIRST CANADIAN EVER! His passion was to walk his beloved Charlie and Jasper on the trails stopping to say hello to all. Gord and Jean both took an early retirement from Kodak and opened their own business (Wilmac Janitorial Services) cleaning professional offices throughout Fergus and when they retired, Gord held a position with Graham Giddy Funeral Home as a funeral assistant, always there to help families in their time of need. At the request of Gord, there will be no funeral service and cremation has taken place. The family will hold an open house at Gord’s residence, 694 Perry Street Fergus on Saturday, March 6, from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. to celebrate his life. We wish to thank Angela at Giddy’s for her help as well as the OPP in Fergus and the ladies from VS who came to mum’s aid so quickly. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Groves Memorial Hospital, in Gord’s name.
