Go to Guelph for a doctor?

Going to Guelph to get a local family doctor is not really the message the Local Health Integration Network wants to present.
But when LHIN chair Kathy Durst was asked during a visit to Centre Wellington council last week what local residents should do if they need a family physician, that was the alternative she offered.
"I'd go to a family health team in Guelph and see which of those doctors is rostering patients," she said, pointing out some Guelph doctors serve up to 20,000 patients.
"I'd say you'd be successful," she said.

Feds come through for Sideroad 19

Centre Wellington is getting federal government money to help fix one of the township's worst roads.
Local MP Michael Chong announced Friday the township has been granted $1.8 million in Infrastructure Stimulus Funding to fix Sideroad 19 in the north end of Fergus.
“We are very pleased that the federal government is providing funding towards the cost of this important project,” said Centre Wellington Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj. “It will help the township to improve its roads, water and sewer infrastructure.”

Good food at high school

What used to be the student council room at Centre Wellington DHS has become a working cafe run by students and staff of the Food School.
Cafe La Ruche opened last Wednesday morning with breakfast treats including stuffed french toast and cardamon coffee cake along with everyday staples that include a fresh fruit and yogurt smoothie and muesli cup.
The idea is to "offer an exciting array of food that is sourced from local farms and using organic and seasonal offerings," states the Food School's website.

BIA AGM to feature ideas for downtown

Results from a symposium on downtown Fergus will be released at the March 4 annual general meeting of the Fergus BIA.
The symposium held Jan. 21 was intended to gather ideas about what kind of businesses to attract to downtown storefronts, and give the BIA and township economic development department feedback on downtown development.
More than 40 people came out to the event, which included an overview of the local economic and business situation and a brainstorming ideas session.
