Student presenting highlights of Arctic trip
A trip to the Arctic last summer was a life-changing experience for local high school student Sarah Hennekens.
On Sunday. Jan. 31, she'll present details of the "Students on Ice" trip, what she discovered and how it changed her life, in a special presentation at the Elora Gorge Cinema titled Passion-Love-Change.
One local school offering full-time Kindergarten
John Black Public School in Fergus is the only Centre Wellington elementary school offering the new full-time junior and senior kindergarten program this fall.A total of 13 public schools and five Catholic schools in the local school boards are offering the program starting in September 2010.
Health Unit cuts staff to meet funding shortfalls
Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health has had to cut 13 staff positions to deal with a shortfall of funding from the province.The health unit's operating budget would have needed a nine percent increase to meet 2009 service levels, but medical officer of health Dr. Nicola Mercer says the province which funds the majority of its programs, is offering a much smaller increase.
"It's challenging times right now," she said.
Annual chilifest raising money for resource centre
On Friday, Feb. 12, the Fergus Legion will host the Community Resource Centre's 13th annual Chilifest Fundraising Lunch.The money raised from the event helps support the resource centre's outreach program, which provides services and supports to those most in need in the community.
Fraberts donates $800 to food bank
Fraberts Fresh Food’s Second Annual Fresh Food Drive was an overwhelming success, the store reports - customers donated nearly $400, up 33 percent over last year’s food drive.Fraberts is matching this contribution, amounting to $800 in fresh produce for the Centre Wellington Food Bank.
