A new owner is finishing the townhouse development at 760 Woodhill Dr. in Fergus and hopes to have units ready to occupants in May-June.
Waterloo-based Oxford Green Developments bought the second phase of the Woodhill Gardens property in March 2011.
Originally planned as a two-phase 47-unit single storey development, the Toronto company that built the first structure did not proceed with the second phase, and the land has been vacant since then.
Construction began in August, and the company says it's progressed well. Located beside the first phase building, the new phase's exterior is substantially completed now.
A sales office recently opened in a unit of the first building and marketing has begun.
Expected to be ready in late May or early June, the second phase will have 24 open concept, single storey units, ranging in size from 760 to 1,365 square feet, with the bulk of the units being in the 1,050 square foot range.
"Woodhill Gardens offers a different choice for consumers from other condominium projects in the area as it is all on a single storey, allowing residents to drive up to the their door and walk straight into their home," Oxford Green states in a release.
One of the three partners in Oxford Green is project manager Paul Bowman, who's worked for 25 years in the area's building industry - for the last 10 years building custom executive homes in the Waterloo area.
Units in the first-phase building have exterior entrances at ground level from the internal road, and inside entrances that connect in an interior corridor system to a community activity room.
Oxford Green sees the project as a continuation of the revitalization of the north end of Fergus - the new Wal-mart store is within sight of both phases of the development.
The addition recently of the large county-built affordable housing block nearby, the expansion of Dixon's Home Hardware, and the construction of the new Catholic Church have changed the character of the north part of St. David Street in the past few years.
